About Us
Our Founder
Building on his track record as an innovative and forward-thinking leader, Ted works with organizations to make them more effective and visible.
In 2022, Ted began a new chapter in his career as a champion for social impact. He launched Ted Miller Strategies, a firm focused on maximizing milestone moments and breaking down organizational silos to create new partnerships and revenue sources. He believes that ensuring an organization’s strategy is aligned with its structure will produce magical and measurable outcomes.
Ted recently completed an eight-month program at Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership to become certified in organization development consulting and change leadership. Ted wasted no time putting the program’s principles into action. Working with a partner, he executed a three-month pro bono project to help an anti-human trafficking organization reopen its in-person services center after a pandemic-related transition to virtual case management. He also secured a contract to develop a strategic growth plan of action for KAMA DC, a nonprofit that organizes events and classes to amplify the experiences and skills immigrants bring to the DC area. Since late 2022, he has been collaborating with a Boys and Girls Club outside of Chicago to elevate its leadership as a national model for STEM workforce readiness programs that create career opportunities for under-represented communities in that growing field. Other enterprising clients include a biotech nonprofit in Kansas City, a small business in D.C. focused on STEM programming, and industry associations looking to further burnish their credentials as a resource for members.
While consulting and certification may be fairly recent additions to Ted’s résumé, his career advising nonprofit, government, and political leaders is extensive. This experience includes embracing ambiguity, taking risks, and working with colleagues to take ideas from the concept phase to effective, measurable programs. His LinkedIn profile has all those details, but here are some more personal perspectives and attributes Ted brings to client relationships.
If you have a five-minute conversation with him, you will learn that Ted is an extrovert who thrives making connections with people. He is also from Kansas (Rock Chalk!) and is the youngest of seven children (his twin sister is two minutes older).
Ted and his husband reside in Washington, DC., where he volunteers for the Logan Circle Community Association. He also hosts networking and mentoring sessions to help connect people seeking job opportunities to leaders in the fields where they want to work. Ask him about the FiveXFriday practice.
Ted believes in volunteering and often asks friends for money. He has raised thousands of dollars for causes that seek to make the world a more inclusive and kinder place. This involvement includes serving on the Board of Trustees for the Point Foundation, the nation’s largest scholarship fund and leadership program for LGBTQ+ students, and three years on The Victory Fund’s Campaign Board supporting endorsed candidates for public office at all levels.
A natural facilitator and strategist who draws energy from others’ ideas and experiences, Ted is at home in front of a whiteboard engaging groups in real-time problem-solving. In advance of the whiteboard activity, Ted loves discussing potential collaborations over iced coffee. And seeing him with iced coffee is a guarantee if you hit the contact button and reach out to him for an introductory conversation.
